Teresa Danks has been teaching in Oklahoma schools for over 20 years. Teresa says she selflessly spends at least two to three thousand dollars of her salary for her students school supplies. That's a big chunk of money to have to front since she only makes $35,000 dollars a year.
Teresa decided this year that there had to be a better way to get the supplies to the children, so she decided to panhandle. She made a big poster explaining her situation and how she wanted so badly to help the kids. She was very nervous about the whole idea of begging people for money, but she really didn't have another option.
Within the first day she made one hundred dollars and the response was overwhelmingly supportive. Teresa's story has spread around the country and so far $12,000 dollars have been raised for her students. Now, Teresa is taking all the money that she's made and creating a foundation to give back to teachers all across the country and help students get their supplies.
