Dumpster-Diving No More
This single mom has been reduced to doing ANYTHING to provide for her children and that includes 'dumpster-diving.' But, one day she found something that changed everything. Meet Ana dos Santos Cruz and this is her story.
By her own admission, Ana dos Santos Cruz would spend up to 10 hours a day digging through trash heaps near Sao Paulo, Brazil.
"I would, I would earn next to nothing and it was very hard work. To tell the truth, it was man’s work. Women only do it when they really need to. I was the only woman among the rubbish pickers.”
But one fateful day changed everything for her. She found a bag containing checks totaling $80,000 that were meant to be cash donations to Barretos Cancer Hospital. She was faced with two options. She could keep the checks and illegally end her days digging through the garbage OR she could turn them over to where they belonged.
“I never thought of keeping any of those checks. The hospital patients need them much more than I do,” she said.
The very next day, she turned them over to the Hospital in hopes they could use the funds.
And this is where the story gets REALLY GOOD!
The local mall heard the story and wanted to reward her good judgement. They have offered her a job whereupon her beautiful young face will be posted on billboards promoting a campaign.
“It is a dream come true," she said. “My son says I look beautiful and loves seeing my picture on the street… I used to be invisible.”
Thank you, Ana dos Santos Cruz, for your courage to do the right thing. And praise God - your reward has not only helped you financially, but sends a message to the community that honest is the best policy!
Here is mom that risked going to jail to provide for her family!
