A Joyful Heart Is Good Medicine
Little girls are famous for dreaming about the day they will get married. Usually it involves dressing up stuffed animals. Sometimes it is lived out vicariously through Barbie and Ken. But one little girl battling leukemia at Melodies Center for Childhood Cancers in Albany, NY didn’t have to wait for her dream wedding.
Little 4-year-old Abby spends a lot of time at the hospital battling her sickness. The barrage of tests and procedures and needle pricks would be enough to drive anyone crazy. And yet, Abby takes it all with a smile on her face.
She’s an amazing little girl, surrounded by amazing people. Of course her loving family is by her side, but the incredible nurses have become like a second family, and work hard to keep them all in good spirits. Her mom says in one Facebook post:
“Abby went for regular blood counts today...Matt and Courtney did a great job, as always, keeping our girl happy and strong. After she was finished, she made sure to make her rounds of snuggle time...Today's snuggle fest included Dr. Pearce, Angie, Courtney and Matt. We are so blessed to have these amazing people in our lives. Thankful for them every day.”
Abbie loves her nurses, but Matt Hickling quickly became her favorite. According to Abby’s mom, the two had a great connection since day one. And so, her mom thought it was adorable when the little girl announced that she was going to be marrying Matt. Mom sent a text to Matt, just to share the charming anecdote, which set into motion something amazing.
When Abby and her mom arrived at the hospital the next day, they were shocked to find that in just 24 hours the staff had put together a “wedding” for Abby and Matt.

And even a toy car decorated with a “Just Married” sign.
Naturally the “wedding” was not official or legal in any way. It was just an amazing act of kindness that served as a true blessing for Abby and her family. And the happy couple are enough to melt your heart!

It says in Proverbs 17:22 that a joyful heart is good medicine. Take a look at the smile on Abby’s face. God bless these wonderful people who have given Abby an incredibly large dose of good medicine!
