Mounds of snow were left piled up on the side of the road after snow plows tried to clear out the most recent storm. Tommy Adams and his mom Teresa were driving home when Tommy saw something that broke his heart.
“Mamma stop the car,” Tommy said.
Startled and a little worried Teresa asked “What’s wrong?”
“There’s an older man with a walker shoveling snow – I’ll help him out.” That’s when Tommy hopped out of the car and asked the gentleman for his snow shovel. The man looked surprised and then grateful and relieved.
It may be clear by now that Tommy’s not your average high school student. Instead of spending snow days hanging out with friends, Tommy spends them shoveling driveways and walkways for friends and neighbors.
And if you ask him why he does it he’ll say “I try to do good for the elderly because one day I may need help too.”
“I was so proud, I started to cry,” said Tommy’s mom. And through her tears she snapped this touching photo.
“He looked tired,” Tommy said, so he told the gentleman to get back into his car to stay warm. And Tommy shoveled, until the stranger’s driveway was clear and safe.
Tommy may not have caught the man’s name, but he was glad to be in the right place at the right time. And so was that that stranger. “He said, ‘God bless you, the world needs more people like you.’” And I’ve gotta say, I couldn’t agree more!
Loving neighbors shoveled snow to help this man get to his dialysis treatment!
