To get to his school every day, Abdul Mallik does something incredible. Because of the tiny village school's location, he must wade through neck-high water in order to reach it by the time school starts every day.

"If I go by bus, it takes me three hours to cover the 12km distance, but swimming through the river is easier, faster and I reach school on time," he says, after he emerges from the river 15 minutes later.

Like teachers in many other countries, Abdul does not get paid much. Instead, he said, he gets compensated in other ways. Teaching children is a passion for him.

As this school year starts, take time to give thanks for those wonderful teachers who help shape the lives of children every day. Many of them do not get paid well, their lives are full of stress and some may even have to endure incredible situations like Abdul... but they do it just the same.

God bless teachers everywhere. :)
