True friendship carries us farther than we realize.
True friends are hard to find. And I don't mean the kind of "friends" we all have on Facebook...I mean the kind of friend you can call at 3am for an emergency. A REAL friend, in good times and bad are hard to find and are truly a blessing from God.
And for these two young men, friendship means a whole lot more. Meet Xie Xu and Zhang Chi. They are classmates at Daxu High School in Jiangsu Province and attend classes together everyday. Actually, Xie gives his friend Zhang, who suffers from Muscular Dystropy (MS) a ride to school everyday.
And by a ride...I mean a 'piggy-back' ride. Zhang's illness makes it very difficult for him to walk so his friend, Xie carries him to and from class - up to 12 times a day for 200 days a year. This has been their routine for the last three years!
The Headmaster of the school has this to say about Xie: "They aren't family, but Xie has been doing this for 3 years. He's the most beautiful student. He also exerts positive influence on other students, who readily help Zhang. With their assistance, Zhang has never missed out on one single class."
Both students are ranked at the top of their class...but I would say that in God's eyes they rank a lot higher than that!
What a beautiful story with an exceptional testimony to unconditional love and friendship. This reminds me of the poem, "Footprints In The Sand" - a time when only one set of footprints are visible because that is when God carried you!!
One night I dreamed a dream. As I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, One belonging to me and one to my Lord.
After the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at many times along the path of my life, especially at the very lowest and saddest times, there was only one set of footprints.
This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it. "Lord, you said once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me."
He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you; Never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you."
